The Vasont Universal Integrator (VUI) is a software extension
of Vasont® that makes it easy for non-technical users to
access the content management system.
The VUI streamlines the writing and publishing process by providing
an editorial interface so that authors and editors can access
Vasont’s functionality from the main menu of their favorite
authoring and publishing tools, such as:
- Adobe® FrameMaker®
- PTC Arbortext Editor
- JustSystems XMetaL®
- Microsoft® Word
- Quark XML Author
A simple Vasont menu item appears in the users’ editing
tool that allows them to open an intuitive navigator window
and perform critical Vasont functions.
Because the VUI eliminates the need for users to go back-and-forth
between Vasont and their editing application, they can work
within their editorial tools while accessing, editing, and updating
their content in Vasont. Vasont manages and tracks all reuse,
repurposing, and versioning behind the scenes, even as changes
are made in the editing application, to provide a more efficient
production cycle.

Vasont’s FrameMaker EDD Manager is an extension of the
Vasont content management software that gives FrameMaker users
an organized way to manage, reuse, and repurpose their EDDs
using the features of a content management system.
EDDs can be reused and edited quickly using drag-and-drop technology
to create new EDDs. Editors can instantly find common elements
and make changes globally to their EDDs. Additionally, all versions
of EDDs are automatically tracked in the content management
system as they are updated.
Vasont’s FrameMaker EDD Manager is best used for managing
similar EDDs with overlapping element definitions for different
structures, managing large EDDs that have frequent changes,
or managing EDDs that require different versions for different
languages.
Training and sales/marketing presentations are no longer an
"afterthought" but are now part of the content management
strategy with Vasont's Microsoft® PowerPoint integration.
It allows users to reuse content from other documents or PointPoint
files to build new PowerPoint presentations. No more rewriting
content...and now content is accurate across your publications.
This integration makes it easy to maintain
your PowerPoint files as your content changes through the use
of bi-directional links and global change functionality.

The Vasont Content Management
System offers a built-in Collaborative Review package to help
manage reviewers, expedite review cycles of content, and track
the history of completed review projects. This tool provides
automatic notification to the reviewers and allows them to provide
feedback and collaborate with other reviewers in the cycle.
Editors can accept or reject changes while maintaining a record
of all comments and feedback for future reference. With this
tool, documentation will show improved quality and increased
usability while providing faster review cycles and a thorough
audit trail.
Adobe Acrobat provides review and collaboration functionality
along with full-featured markup capabilities using the free
Adobe Reader. Vasont’s Adobe Acrobat extension provides
a staging area for review-ready content and an integration with
Vasont’s workflow to launch the review process and automate
various tasks for users. This extension allows remote users
to easily participate in the review process using the standard
PDF format and the free downloadable Adobe Reader - with no
cost for “reviewer seats” and no handling of complex
XML content.

This extension of Vasont takes the tasks
of organizing and sending content for translation out of the
hands of editors and puts them into the routines of Vasont.
The system automatically pulls the appropriate content for translation,
packages it neatly into an XML file for the translator, and
ships it off to the preferred translation tool on demand. As
translations are in progress, Vasont provides status information
from the vendors. When translations are completed, Vasont retrieves
the newly translated content, systematically stores the translated
content in the appropriate places in its repository, and updates
the status of the components for the editors. The Vasont Translation
Package can integrate with any translation tool on the market
(i.e., Lionbridge's
Freeway tool).
Editors no longer have to spend time searching for content that
was changed, compiling a package for re-translation, and loading
new translations back into the repository. Vasont automates
this whole process and runs it behind-the-scenes — a totally
transparent process to the editor. Editors can now spend their
time more wisely on other tasks while Vasont takes care of the
translation process.

For users who publish to multiple media channels such as PDF
and compiled help files, Vasont provides an integration with
WebWorks ePublisher Pro. This extension automates the process
of compiling and extracting content from Vasont and publishing
it in multiple formats using WebWorks
ePublisher Pro. Users stage content for publishing in Vasont
and Vasont’s WebWorks extension does the rest of the work
automatically, making it quick and easy for users to complete
the publishing process.
