Company kicks off its 60th year serving publishers,
associations and Fortune 1000 companies across the United States
EMIGSVILLE, PA – January 19, 2010 - Progressive Information
Technologies, a leader in the multi-channel publishing services
industry, today announced that 2010 marks the 60th anniversary
of the Company. Since 1950, associations and publishers of educational
materials, medical and reference information have outsourced
their publications to Progressive for the production of printed
and electronic publications. To celebrate the milestone, the
Company is providing a free lunch for its employees every 60
business days.
The Company was founded in 1950 by Richard (Dick) S. Schiding
under the name of Progressive Typographers. At that time, the
Company provided hot metal typesetting services to organizations
for the production of printed books. In 1968, control of the
Company was assumed by his eldest son, Richard B. Schiding,
who continues in his role as President and CEO today. Under
his leadership, the Company has advanced technologically and
financially to maintain its reputation for high quality publishing
services for all media channels, including print, Web, CD/DVD,
and mobile devices.
From the core business of composition and prepress services,
three sister divisions were added to expand the business. In
1989, a division that operates under the name of Progressive
Publishing Alternatives was added to offer project management,
editorial and graphic design services for publishers. In 1992,
development began on a content management system that would
lead to a new software division known as Vasont Systems that
provides content management solutions for reference publishing,
technical documentation, and business information to Fortune
1000 companies. To accommodate the increasing demand for electronic
publications, a New Media division was added in 1997 for the
production of publications on the Web, CD/DVD, and mobile devices.
“Virtually everything has changed in this business since
our beginnings, including our Company name,” said Richard
B. Schiding, President and CEO of Progressive Information Technologies.
“Technology advancements alone have kept this business
interesting and exciting for our employees, many of whom have
stayed with us for decades. Thanks to their abilities to constantly
learn new skills and keep up with the latest new tools, our
Company is still in business 60 years later.”
Progressive has helped organizations that publish information
to multiple media channels by providing end-to-end publishing
services. By outsourcing the production of their publications,
these organizations have been able to produce new deliverables
without investing in new technologies and expensive equipment,
increase their production capacity without increasing their
staff, and lower their production costs.
